Mark Driscoll on the kingdom

Here’s a video where Mark Driscoll speaks on the subject of the kingdom of God.   It’s a great video.   Driscoll defines the kingdom as “the people of God in the place of God under the rule of God.”

In my opinion, this definition draws too close a connection between the church and the kingdom.  The church is not the kingdom.  Rather, the church is comprised of the citizens of Jesus’ inaugurated kingdom.

My working definition for the kingdom is “God’s saving reign over his creation through Jesus Christ.”   I think that this definition does a decent job of bringing together both the present and future dimensions of the kingdom.
