Man, Part Two

Although man was initially in communion with God, Adam’s sin fractured this relationship (Col. 1:21). The world has fallen from its original state. Sin and death have entered the cosmos (Gen. 2:16; Rom. 5:12-21). In this way, sin has brought humanity spiritual, physical, and ultimately, eternal death (James 1:15). Having inherited a fallen nature from Adam, we are born sinners, separated from God (Ps. 51:5; Rom. 5:17-19; Eph. 2:1-3). While I affirm that we have inherited a sinful nature from Adam, I reject the notion that we inherited Adam’s guilt in the fall (Deut. 24:16; 2 Sam. 24:17; Ezek. 18). Each man is condemned for his own sins. The human mind, will, and emotions are in complete bondage to sin. All of our natural tendencies are bent toward rebellion against God (Jer. 17:9; John 8:34; Rom. 1:18-32; Eph. 4:17-19). And by refusing to give God His due praise, all of the unbeliever’s actions displease God (Gen. 6:5; Rom. 1:21). Apart from God’s grace and the work of the Holy Spirit, no one seeks God (John 6:44; Rom. 3:10-18).
