I find it deeply ironic when Calvinists use the language of permission to explain why sin exists.   I understand how an Arminian can speak of God “allowing” sin or “permitting” evil.  But can a Calvinist legitimately use such language?  If I understand soft determinism right, I don’t think that they can.  BTW that’s why they have a hard time explaining the problem of evil, in my opinion.

Maybe that’s also why a lot of Calvinists, when speaking pastorally, do end up using an Arminian view of providence when counselling hurting believers.

I think it’s also ironic that Calvinists talk like Arminans in so many other ways. E.g., like wanting prayer for wisdom in teaching their children to trust in the Lord. I thought that trusting in the Lord was something that is only possible if God chooses to give a person that trust. Calvinists are just so full of contradiction.

    It is peculiar.
