psalms

I’ve been pretty busy lately with family and church. Christmas was pretty awesome. It was a good time with both of our families. Mae is getting really big. She’s 3 months old already.

Youth group is going well. I’m getting my report ready for our annual business meeting which is coming up. We are covering Psalms in Sr. High. That’s pretty cool.

I’ve been studying Hebrew poetry, which functions off of parallelism rather than rhythm and rhyme as in English. There are three kinds of parallelism. (I’ll give some examples from Ps. 1)

1. Similiar Thoughts

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

2. Additional Thoughts

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

3. Contrasting Thoughts

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

I purchased CS Lewis’ book Reflections on the Psalms. I hope that will help. I don’t have in any commentaries on Psalms other than Spurgeon’s and IMHO it’s kinda lame. Walton’s Bible Background Commentary is helpful, but doesn’t exposit each psalm. So I might need something else.

    Hey Daniel,

My daughter is already 32 months.

    It goes by quickly.

May God bless you and your family.
