youth group

tonight we have youth group at our house.  I’ve been teaching through Exodus.  It’s been fun.   One of the major themes in Exodus is YHWH revealing Himself to the Hebrews.  After 400 some years in Egypt, they had probably forgotten about the God of Abraham and adapted the beliefs of the polytheistic Egyptians.  This story of redemption is about God changing Israel’s worldview.

If you ever get the chance, try underlining in Exodus everytime you see the phrase “I am the LORD.”  God wanted Israel to know Him and not be deceived by the fake gods that Egypt offered.  The purpose of salvation is always worship.  Salvation is not an end in itself; rather it’s a means to an end–and that is to worship the true God.

In youth group, we’re going to evaluate some of the false gods that our culture offers us and compare that to the splendor of knowing Christ–the only way and truth.

Exodus 15:11

Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ?
Who is like you—
majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
working wonders?
